WhatsApp to Get Instagram-Like Reactions to Status With Emojis: What This Means

Similar to Instagram’s Story reaction feature, Whatsapp is testing a new feature that allows users to react to Whatsapp Statuses using a set of pre-defined emojis. WhatsApp has recently focused on releasing a number of new features to make it more appealing. According to WABetaInfo, Whatsapp will soon allow users to reply to statuses with 8 emojis, which will be available for beta testers on Android. This function, however, is currently restricted to a small number of users and will be made available to a larger number of users in the coming weeks. Whatsapp is Taking Inspiration from Instagram, Once Again

Whatsapp Beta for Android version 2.22.17.24 appears to test the ability to respond to its version of stories, the status, with emojis. You can now select from eight pre-defined emojis. Emojis include the Smiling Face with Heart-Eyes, Face with Tears of Joy, Face with Open Mouth, Crying Face, Folded Hands, Clapping Hands, Party Popper, and Hundred Points.

To reply to a status with an emoji rather than text, simply swipe up on the status page, and a list of emojis should appear immediately above the text response option. This is similar to Instagram’s functionality.

The update is currently only available to a small group of Android beta testers. The update could be made available to iOS beta testers and the general public in the coming months. There is no set date for when the update will be released. Sign up for the Google Play Beta Program if you want to try out the feature before it becomes official.

In other news, the company was spotted testing a new feature that could allow group admins to delete messages sent by anyone and mask themselves during a video call.
