The experimental option lets you zoom in on YouTube videos.

According to Android Police, YouTube has quietly launched a test version of the pinch to zoom function that is only available to Premium subscribers. It allows you to pan around the screen while viewing the video player in either full-screen landscape or portrait mode, as demonstrated in the example below.

You may test it out if you’re a Premium member by tapping your profile picture, selecting “Your Premium benefits,” going to the “Try new features” area, and turning on the zoom option. The ability may take some time to activate, but once it does, you can zoom in up to 8x.

With the help of random users and beta app testers, YouTube has in the past experimented with interesting features like picture-in-picture. However, it began offering Premium customers experimental features in 2020, allowing them to test out new features before everyone else. Easy playlist management and browser-based voice search are two of the new experimental features that have made it into the Premium app. For the time being, only Android smartphones are supported by the new function, which will be accessible until September 1st.
